ABOUT THE SPEAKER


Mary Louise Hill, Professor Emerita of Geology, Lakehead University 

Dr. Mary Louise Hill is Professor Emerita of Geology at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. During her long career of teaching she has helped many students, graduates and young professionals launch and establish their careers as professional geoscientists. She has over 40 years of experience in university teaching and administration in both Canada and the United States. She served as Provost and Vice-President (Academic) at Lakehead University in 1999 to 2004. Her research program on structural control of orogenic gold deposits involved collaboration with industry partners from prospectors and junior exploration companies to major producers. On the Board of Directors of the PDAC she has actively participated in supporting students and young professionals through the Human Resource Development committee, and in promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in the geoscience workforce. Mary Louise has an Honours B.Sc. in Geology from Carleton University and a Ph.D. in Geology from Princeton University.
